Eulaliopsis binata
Yesterday we had a visit to the tribal fair i.e "Adibasi Mela" organised by Odisha government at Bhubaneswar. There we found, some tribal communities (lodhas) from Mayurbhanj district were using Eulaliopsis binata for craft making.
We had questionnaire with them about the Eulaliopsis binata and record below.
Eulaliopsis binata locally called as "Sabai ghas". It is a perennial fiber yielding grass grows up to 7-8ft. The plant cutting is done in between last of September to October. They cut the grass about 30 cm above the ground. Once they are propagated,they can yield up to several years.
Economic importance-
The most important use of this grass is to make ropes for domestic purposes. It is also used in craft making, waving fome furniture like sofa, table etc.
